We are delighted that Cyriel Ruers has joined Maverick Advocaten as a partner as of 1 January 2023.
Cyriel has been a lawyer in the field of public economic law since 2013, with a focus on competition law, market regulation and consumer protection matters. Over the past decade, he has gained extensive experience in administrative enforcement proceedings and advising companies in regulated sectors such as telecom, aviation and energy. He also litigates on behalf of companies in civil law matters involving sector-specific regulation or consumer law. Until his move to Maverick Advocaten, Cyriel worked at Allen & Overy in Amsterdam.
Martijn van de Hel, founding partner of Maverick Advocaten says: “We are thrilled with the arrival of Cyriel. He is considered one of the most promising Dutch competition and regulatory lawyers. Next to his expertise in high profile competition law and regulatory procedures, he also has extensive knowledge of public law including consumer protection rules. These are the legal areas we want to develop further together over the coming years.”
“I’m very excited about this move,” Cyriel says. “Maverick is the only true independent competition law boutique in The Netherlands, with broad experience in both antitrust and merger control matters. This is complemented by vast experience in market regulation and consumer protection matters, which fits in really well with my previous work in these fields. Essentially, Maverick offers the expertise needed to assist clients in the full range of matters before authorities, such as the EC, the Netherlands Authority for Consumers and Markets (ACM) and the Dutch Healthcare Authority (NZa). I believe this is especially valuable since authorities are increasingly looking at other tools - not only competition law - to achieve their goals.”
