Martijn van de Hel represented a dating sites provider with the obtainment of a commitment decision of the Dutch Authority for Consumers and Markets (“ACM”).
Reason for the investigation by ACM was an inquiry into dating websites that use, inter alia, fictitious profiles. A company behind a number of these websites made a commitment to better inform consumers and to compensate consumers. Furthermore, the company promised to introduce a code of conduct to set an example to her contracting parties and to providers of comparable services. As this was the best possible outcome for consumers, ACM accepted the commitments and terminated the investigation.
