Maverick Advocaten advises large retail chain on fake discounts, marketing and (online) sales to consumers

Cyriel Ruers and Paul Breithaupt advise a large retail chain on various aspects of European consumer law. This includes compliance with the new rules on price indications (fake discounts), general conditions, marketing, (online) sales to consumers and unfair trade practice in a broad sense.

Many rules on (online) sales to consumers are set at European level. Almost all companies selling products or services to consumers have to comply with them. The EU introduces more and more stringent rules, often included in guidelines from the European Commission or national regulators such as the Consumer and Market Authority (ACM). The actual application of these directives and regulations often raises questions in practice. A complicating matter is that member states sometimes apply stricter rules and enforcement can vary greatly from one member state to another.
